Lamp design
Rome, Spring 2003

This spring I decided to make some lamps and candle holders. I had seen some in shops, but they were always made of cheap plastic glass and never quite fit the design idea in my mind. My cousin Flavia Sebok and I sat down and looked at all the glass I had and made 4 designs: 2 lamps and 2 candle holders. We took some measurements and got the plan laid out.

Then we embarked on the search for the right person to make the structure for the lamp, which turned out to be quite an easter egg hunt. Finally, I found the right guys by Campo dei Fiori, who have this soldering machine called a "puntatrice" which is able to make small joints.

They made the structures, which I painted with metallic paints, either gold or silver. Then I made the glass elements with custom links for the specific height of the frame and secured them to the frame. I also did the wiring myself and chose the components to go with the overall design.

This is my favorite lamp so far. It is made of 20 amber drops (10 short ones and 10 long ones) and 76 glass octagons, of which 6 are large yellowish ones. It makes a great reflection on the surface it sits on and the background it shines upon. Also, when the sunshine strikes it in the afternoon, it explodes with rainbows and refractions.

Price: 350 euro/dollars

This lamp is constructed on a silver base. The center row is composed of unique dark grey octagons that have blue streaks through them. The top and bottom parts are composed of 40 swarovski stras each and 20 octagons. This one is even more of a shiner in direct light.

Price: 300 euro/dollars

I plan on making more lamps, and am especially interested in making custom ones with designs and colors chosen by the client based on their needs and decor.
